Hill Climb Racing Series Hits 518 Million Downloads on China Android
Press release, August 3, 2021
Fingersoft, the game’s Finnish mobile publisher and creator, and their Finnish-Chinese publishing partner MyGamez announced the milestone today based on a Chinese cultural twist.
The number 518 in Chinese symbolises “I will get rich” and the three-number combination is highly sought after in China for many things, from phone numbers and car license plates to company names.
“This is only the beginning. China is the world’s largest gaming market and we see a lot of growth potential for Fingersoft there. We’re committed to bringing more fun and engaging experiences to our growing Chinese user base,” said Fingersoft CEO Jaakko Kylmäoja.
“The number eight symbolises prosperity in Chinese culture, so 888 million is our next natural download target,” said MyGamez CEO Mikael Leinonen.
“The Chinese market is evolving extremely fast. For example, one of the most interesting trends right now is the popularity of short video services and their influence in video game marketing. A fun physics-based game like Hill Climb Racing is just the kind of product that might benefit from these viral platforms.”
MyGamez began distributing the original Hill Climb Racing in China Android stores in 2014, and has since also brought the sequel Hill Climb Racing 2 and the Chinese-themed Hill Climb Racing: The Chinese Adventure, to the Chinese market.
The game was not an instant hit in China but after a couple of years of steady growth, it made its way into the top 10 most downloaded games across top Android stores.
Over the same period, the market has seen some major changes, including distribution channel consolidation and rise of ad monetisation and user acquisition services in recent years, giving the Hill Climb Racing series a good basis for future growth.
